About Us
What do you get when you put six accomplished studio and concert singers together in a “vocal band”? The award-winning a cappella group Sixth Wave! This scintillating sextet serenades its audience with unaccompanied originals and unique jazz-tinged arrangements of familiar songs. The members of the group can be heard individually in venues ranging from local concert halls to opera stages, from rock and jazz clubs to movie theatres. When they combine forces, their wide experience allows them to sing a variety of styles, showcasing them as versatile soloists as well as a tight vocal ensemble. All the arrangements are penned by members of Sixth Wave; their unique perspective gives everything from traditional jazz tunes to Oingo Boingo covers a fresh, sophisticated sound.
Sixth Wave has compiled an impressive list of credits in its history. They are the 2001 National Harmony Sweepstakes Champions (as well as the 2001 Los Angeles Regional Champions). They were voted Favorite Jazz Group in the 2001 A Cappella Community Awards. They received two nominations in the 2002 Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards: Artist of the Year (for which they snagged runner-up) and Best Jazz Song for their rendition of “Gimme That Wine.” Their debut CD, Sixth Wave, appeared on the first-round ballot for the 2002 Grammy Awards. They have appeared live on Los Angeles radio station KPFK, and cuts from their self-titled CD have been featured in the show A Cappella Radio International (ARI), KTLA-TV’s morning news broadcast and NPR’s popular nationally-syndicated show Car Talk. The band has performed at many Los Angeles theatres and clubs, including prestigious venues such as The Cinegrill, The Jazz Spot, and The Jazz Bakery. They’ve opened for such well-known vocal groups as The Bobs, Rockapella, and The Swingle Singers. They’ve entertained audiences at the Idyllwild Jazz in the Pines Festival, the West Coast A Cappella Summit, and the World Festival of Sacred Music. In October 2003 Sixth Wave sang as part of the festivities for the Walt Disney Concert Hall Opening Gala. They released their second album, It Will Come to You, in April, 2004.
